Your hosts at Kesselgrub
From Farm to Holiday World
Welcome to Ferienwelt Kesselgrub-a place where warm hospitality meets cherished tradition.
Our story began in the 19th century, when Christian Steiner founded a humble farming estate. Much has changed since then, yet one thing has remained constant: our enduring passion for genuine hospitality.
A Journey Through the History of Ferienwelt Kesselgrub
OUR HISTORY & HERITAGE
In 1922, Anna (a innkeeper) and Rupert Thurner (a farmer) acquired the agricultural estate and transformed it into a small guesthouse with rooms for travelers. In doing so, they laid the foundation for what is today the Ferienwelt Kesselgrub. For three generations, the Thurner name has been deeply intertwined with exceptional hospitality and premium accommodation.
In 1973, the grandparents expanded the business by acquiring the "Ski & Badeglück" estate, alongside agricultural and forestry lands in Eben im Pongau. Four years later, in 1977, they added a holiday home in Altenmarkt. The construction of our swimming lake in 1986, along with numerous renovations and expansions, continually shaped the evolution of our resort.
MODERNIZATION & GROWTH
In 1997, Johann Rupert Thurner Jr. took over the helm, continuing the family tradition of innovation. The addition of a new winter garden and the Fiakerstube lounge in 1999—later rebranded as the s’Kessel in 2001—reflect our ongoing pursuit of excellence. We steadily expanded our offerings with the premium holiday apartments in Eben im Pongau (2000), a country house in Altenmarkt (2004), and private fishing waters in Mühlbach/Dreiergraben (2005).
In 2006, we beautifully renovated and extended our signature towers, creating the exclusive Tower Suite. The complete redesign and expansion of our swimming lake in 2008, followed by the addition of the apartment house in 2009, offered our guests even greater comfort and relaxation.
SUSTAINABILITY & THE FUTURE
In 2011, we installed a solar energy system for our swimming lake to ensure environmentally friendly operations. The staff residence (2015), our own power plant (2016), and the acquisition of two building plots in Eben im Pongau (2018) further showcase our strategy for sustainable, forward-thinking growth.
The crowning achievement of our recent developments was the grand hotel expansion in 2023. With a brand-new indoor pool, an expansive water world, additional rooms and suites, and an extended restaurant area, we now offer our guests an unprecedented level of comfort and holiday experiences.
